Well, what can we say other then that was one heck of a spring for swinging a fly! It would be great if all springs came like that, long hard cold (normal) winter with a nice consistent spring melt with good flows of cold water temps right into June. The Spring steelhead run came early and stayed late with fish dropping back well into June. As a result all of the major spey rivers in Ontario fished very well this year! We should also see some excellent reproduction as conditions allowed the fish to travel far up into the cold water tribs for their migratory spawning run. With any luck we will have a normal summer for temps and rainfall and in 2-3 yrs we hopefully will reep the rewards that Mother Nature has given us this past season! The Swing is the Thing......but the Tug is the Drug........ and October cant come soon enough! Did an Ontario West Coast tour today.....no swingable water anywehre yet folks......will be a couple weeks! But here is something to get us started when spring does finally show itself! Whether you are brand new to the sport or looking for a tune up with your spey casting here is a great oppertunity to spend some time with Maitland Mike! With only 6 spots available there will be lots of "one on one" instruction not to mention a little time to actually swing a fly on the Maitland River after lunch. Only 3 spots still available! Be sure to call Angling Sports at 519 649 7429 or email Mike@flyfitters.ca to reserve your spot. If spring does not arrive in time and river conditions do not cooperate for this date we will post pone untill later in May. |
